CheongSam dress wanabe

The only 2 meters fabric I manage to grab in Ldn, I was anxious and a bit confused, now I clearly regreted!. So anyway, I will use this fabric to make my first CheongSam dress (I'm not sure if I call it right), the dress is in progress but seems like my spirit is drop bcoz of the heavy snow outside.

I'll post the picture as soon as the sun is come.

Hello everyone, or I supposed to say HOLAAAAA... yes..yes... I just returned from Tenerife Spain, I am now in Bologna with winter,cold and snow. But I'm happy to re-united with my sewing machine at last.

We went to Tenerife on Dec 2011. To taste the weather, sight seeing, stuff like that. We flew from London direct to Tenerife South. You can get direct flight aswell from Bologna though. That time we had things to do in London (such buy (only) 2 meters fabrics for me), so we may aswell took the flight from there. The flight took 4 hours from Ldn and 5 hours from Bo.

The first impression I get from the area where we stayed (Playa de Las Americas---where the tourists are) is reminded me of Pataya in Thailand. I really felt as if I was in Asia. But that was me, bcoz my husband has different opinion, beside he visit Tenerife before. Anyway, the point is I like Tenerife. Holiday atmosphere all the time day and night.

I met with Indonesian girlfriends there. I poked them through facebook then we meet up in McDonalds for a coffee. They are VERY VERY friendly. I'm so lucky.

During the day, we went down to the beach (5 minutes walks), or visiing other town by foot, sometimes by bus. We had sandwich for lunch (homemade sandwich from home) and stop for coffee someplace. In the night, we stayed and dine at home most of the time. In the night the temperature drop, can be quite cold.

Many English around our area. So we speak English most of the time, my husband taught me some Spanish words to ease my way, such how to say the numbers, how much things, where ia the toilet, directions and stuff. I noticed that Spanish aren't much different from Italian. Good for me.

We will return there at the end of Feb this year,2012. We'll bring our car, drive it through south of Spain and take the two days boat from Cadiz to Tenerife. I never done this before, i hope I won't get the sea sick too much. I'll bring all my sewing gears. Will be wonderful and lift up my spirit everytime I think about Tenerife.

Random Event in 2011

I must have been bored these days. As you know... I don't have my sewing machines handy. When I wake up in the morning... I go straight on line to check my facebook and stay there until my back hurt bcoz I'm sitting on the stool. Like they say... I like fb bcoz all my friends are there. I can't wait to leave the country by the end of this November. Bcoz right now I'm dying to want to sew. I have already some project in my head. Alright then... stop complaining! I complain a lot since I live in Italy...LOL.

Clearance the house

Today, from morning..(not that morning actually),, alright.. from it was still daylight until dark, me and my husband we tide up some stuff in the house. This won't be the last I think... It wasn't the first though. This means we organize our stuff, clothes... everything basically. Which are stay and which aren't. I found many old stuff, bring back old memory.... but I don't miss them until I found them again. But I don't care. We are leaving..right!? For now we have to leave everything behind in my parents in law house. Because the house we are live in at the moment is for sale. We have to empty the house so that it's easy for people to view it.

I already save all my sewing stuff hidden somewhere. I piled up my fabrics inside the wardrobe. I hide one of my sewing machine in the corner. The serger and the others two will be inside the wardrobe. Notice that I have 4 machines.. (at the moment ;p).. I want some more though.. ;)

One day I'll pick them up. I don't know how... ** imagine if we decide to live in Canary then how am I going to pick them up?**

My husband said, he'll buy me another machine if I have an urge to sew at any cost in case...LOL... let's see ya.. we don't know what tomorrow's hold.

(not so) Omelet Veggy

I hardly cook fancy meal. I think everyone's aknowledge that. I only cook simple food which miracoulously can make my husband satisfied with his meal ;P

Here's one of my simple cook. It is supposed to be an omelet but the food got attached on the pan... so it end up become scamble!

Chopped onion... courgette and red pepper (all these veggies are optional..)

Stir fried until they look half cook.

Once they ready... pour the eggs (I use 2 eggs..whisk them a bit.. pinch of salt & black pepper)

on the picture I added pasta fussili left over from our lunch ;)

Set low fire so that it cook evenly.

Roast it a bit on the pan... makes more tasty!

Autumn - Winter R.O Collection 2011

After a week of living inside my imagination.. tried to figure out which designs are best for this season. Finally the dresses took shape and here are the latest collection from Ritney Ogez. The material is elastane jersey... you may want to wear them with leggin underneath the dress or skinny jeans.

I think these are my last project for the time being. I already packed my sewing tools and stuff in a box to keep. I don't know if I can bring them with me or not.

Me and my husband.. we plan to go on travelling again after 5 years living in Bologna Italy. We'll go to Tenerife Island in Spain. We might stay for a month or even more if we like the place.

Next time I post something I'll try to write about our new environment. Hopefully I can do my sewing aswell there otherwise... would be sad ;'(

Venice Italy

Piazza San Marco

My long- lost- girlfriend finally came to visit me in Bologna Italy. She stayed with us in Bologna and the following day we went to Venice... which takes 2 hours with the local train. At first I was worried where I supposed to take her once we arrive in Venice bcoz my husband took me there 5 years ago. Practically I didn't remember a thing. My husband gave me a Venice map... as if I could read the map?! He told me to bring the guide book aswell... as if like I would carry around that super thick book with me?!

When we arrived... around mid day..miraculously I knew what I'm doing. We took the water bus straight away (cost 6.50 euro/p) to San Marco. Along the way... we saw many beautiful Venetian things. We took pictures.... admiring many buildings... Fantastic!.

Arriving in San Marco.. we still fresh. We took pictures again...(stop for gelato in between) that day was all about taking photos. From San Marco... we started to walk back toward the train station. Along the way we stoped in Academia... we didn't get in though. Taking pictures... had slice of Pizza.. went aswell to Ponte Rialto.. to check the market.. full of souvenirs typical Venetian.

My girlfriend bought a Venetian Plate for her mother. I bought a set of wine glass as a wedding gift for my friend.

We arrived in the train station to early for our train. So we sat down in the bar for merenda (afternoon tea / snack). Likely there was a free wifi in the bar so we didn't get bored at all.

We arrived back in Bologna around 8pm.. safe..tired and happy.

Strapless Tube Mini Dress

Requested by my girlfriend... I manage to make one sample of Strapless Tube Dress... which I may (maybe) launch a few before summer completely end. I mean... it is officially autumn already but the weather still quite warm sometimes.

The whole concept is similar like my other strapless dress... which is with elastic shirring at the back panel. But with tighter shape on each side seams.

On the picture she wore the dress with black bolero ... which give me an idea of making a reversible bolero... to complete your dresses!

It is early September..the weather here in Bologna is gettin' chilly compare to few days ago. I went to a halal bihalal / Idul Fitri party somewhere in Montebelluna-Italy... last sunday. I made marble cake (It was a success) for the occassion. I don't really bake or cook much. I think I have a limitation in that departement.

On the picture.. I'm in the middle. My girlfriends who happen to wore my creation are on my left and right side. We wore Kebaya Encim ala Bolognese.. one of the latest creation from Istri Teladan Corporation.

After been asked many times by bunch of girlfriends.. In the end I took the challenge to sew kebaya. Kebaya is an Indonesian traditional clothes (according to my knowledge). Women.. they usually wear it for some special occassion such wedding... or others. I never sew kebaya before. My girlfriend sent me the pattern outline but I still got no clue. One day I thought.. I'm going to give it a try anyway. So I started to draft the pattern. Basic one. I manage with the pattern but I want to give some personalize touch on it... I sew three lines of elastic for the front panel. Attach bell type of sleeves from the elbow point. Originally.. when you wear kebaya.. you wear aswell the sarong. But I'm not in the mood to sew the sarong to go with it. I thought I'll wear black skinny pants will do the show. For the material... I use Indian silk... the one I got for my bday gift. Bought in India and brought here by my sister in law. The colour is cooper colour. For the collar and the sleeves.. I use batik cotton..left over from my last trip to London. The funny part is... this batik is original Indonesian Batik halus but I bought it in London. I paid even much cheaper than if I buy it in Indonesia... crazy! The final result is nice. I think now I can say that.."hey.. I sew kebaya too..y'all know"

Matching wardrobe

In Indonesia it is very common to have your wardrobe matching with your partner...or family. Like a uniform. On the other hand... my husband been asking me to make him a male tunic for summer. Something that is easy to wear..easy to pull in and pull out. By chance because I just launched Linen Clothes on www.ritney.etsy.com... I had some extra material to use. Some linen material which is perfect for Bologna's heat. At first.. in my mind I wanted to put a little button for the opening. After I done it..my husband complaint! He said he wanted something "easy"..easy..easy but nice looking. So I opened the whole stitches and re sew it. Two times I need to re-do the front part of his tunic. After a few hours finally he's happy with his tunic (my..my...). Then the following day I made tunic for myself. Half shoulder as usual... This time was pretty quick to made mine. Very simple cut indeed.

It was my b'day, on the 30th of june. And we went out for dine, took this picture... me in apple green dress. I made this dress already a while ago. Didn't get a chance to wear it until that day. The material is silky cotton, Indonesian batik printed which I bought in London. The design is tube dress, like it alot.. elegant yet relaxing.

Off Shoulder bat wing Mini dress

Showing off a little part of your shoulder can be quite sexy. So I come up with this off shoulder bat wing mini dress which you can wear it with or without legging.

Making bat wing sleeve is easy enough, it just needs a lot of material because it's all one piece cut. Save you time to attach the sleeve though.

Due to the elastic material, you need a serger to work with it. Otherwise an easy project like this can turn into a nightmare if you use normal sewing machine. But anyway, that is my opinion.

Easy Petticoat and 50's flair Dress

I've been wanting to make 50's flair dress. But I also want it to be easy to wear without zipper nor buttons. After browsed around the net.. I figured one out that to make 50's look .. I need to wear petticoat underneath the skirt. I remember when I was a kid.. I used to hate it.. usually made from tulle and makes me itchy and hot. So this time I thought I would skip the tulle and use lace instead for the bottom part. The key is to gather the lace so that it creates ruffles to lift your skirt a bit.

My quick and easy petticoat. Does the job though. I don't particularly follow any pattern just read a few instructions from the net.

Pencil Skirt

Any normal pencil skirt pattern would do.. just add the length a bit to cover your knee.

Even better if the material is slightly stretch like mine.. and make a slit at the back so allows you to walk easily.

Today I made shortbread as a promised to my husband. I found the recipe on the net. Make alteration on sugar because it's too sweet for my taste.

The ingredients are these :

self raising flour 180gr

sugar 40gr

butter 125gr

beat together sugar and butter then add the flour. shape the dough and leave in the fridge for 20 minutes. Bake 180 degree for 10-15 minutes. Keep on eye bcoz it's cook quickly.

Modern Kimono

I like to read Japanesse manga, I like J-drama, I like everything about Japan. I would like to visit Japan one day. I hope it won't be just a wishful thinking ^.^

oh, I forgot to say I also like kimono. Modern kimono because the real kimono it's seems hard to put on while I like something practical.

I made this modern kimono the other day after I saw Barbie doll with short-modern-geisha style-kimono on shop etalase. Caught my attention, caught my heart aswell ;)

I went home and started to browse around on the net, look for the instructions on how to make simple kimono, even learn on how to wear the real kimono, that's why I came to the conclusion on how ...err..hard to put it on is the real kimono?!

The pattern I drafted myself so considering this still a prototype modern kimono, a few faults here and there but I will come to perfection anway.

I have two points why I chose camouflage fabric. first bcoz that is the only sufficient fabric I have.

Second is bcoz camouflage is hit the high street fashion again here in Bologna. I don't know other places.

To make one kimono, I use something like 3 meters of fabric. Many long pieces left over so I use it to make straps for the belt.

I really mean it by making the belt, I made modern obi belt to go with the kimono. The belt part I use military green cotton, and the straps come from the camouflage fabric left over.

I wore the kimono for the party the other day and I received many compliments and comments from the ladies.. the gentlemen and also from KIDS!!

One of my friend said... "oh.. I didnt know you r coming... I couldnt see you"

I said : "how come?!"

she said : "well.. it's bcoz you wear CAMOUFLAGE!!!"

hahahahah it was joke of the day.

Batik Skirt

I made this Indonesian batik skirt for my dear friend the other time. At first I thought is gonna be a thoughtfull project, instead it came as a breeze. I think it easy due to material I am using. The material is cotton with batik pattern on it. This type of skirt, I must admit needs more material than if you choose -A-Line skirt. Worth the fabric though. I put the lining aswell so it won't be see through.

Will be great for summer. I just hope she will enjoy the skirt as much as when I made it.

My mannequin is slimmer than a normal person.. so I need to pin the skirt in order for the skirt to stay there. You may notice that the shape is a bit unbalance for that reason.

The final result... she wore the skirt and kindly took this picture.

Two Tone Blazer

These days I happened to need a challenging project to do. Then I came up with the idea to make a simple cut blazer which proven -not-that-simple project at all. This is my 3rd times on making a personal blazer. Of course each of them has a different model. Also different material. Infact after I finished my 2nd blazer I promised myself won't make any blazer no more, but hey times change ;)

Anyway, the pattern I drafted from Burda MAG. No try out first on musli, I just cut straight onto my real material. I use two different colour fabric bcoz I couldn't decide on which colour I supposed to work on. But having a two tone colour blazer should make the show go, right?!

The button is basically anything flat and round with facial cotton on it, wrapped with fabric. And for the button hole, I make button loop instead bcoz I'm afraid to spoil the fabric if I make a hole on it.

Inside is line with black lining. I use the same pattern to make the lining.

If you notice, I made a mistake on the collar and on the sleeves. I had a hard time to inserted the sleeves. I did follow the instruction, it just didn't correspond enough. I won't talk about it, I just want to enjoy my blazer now ;)

Hair Scrunchies Up cycled

You see.. I have so many small pieces left over material hangin' around my sewing table. There is only two things I can do to clear them out. Either chuck'em away (which is tear my heart..**sobs) or.. up cycled them. I actually lazy to start to creating new pattern in order to use my left over material.. so I come up with making "hair scrunchies". It;s easy... it's easy ...and it's EASYYYY!!

Basically my pattern is just a long rectangular. No particular size requirement to make this. I think the rectangular length should be double of your wrist. Oh.. you also need an elastic.

you can put it on your wrist like a bracelet or obviously to tie your hair.

Here.. in the shop they charge 5 euros each !! what a daylight robbery. better make one for yourself from now on..hahahah

First of all I need to thank my girlfriend Tari whom helps me to click an idea into my head the other time ;D.

So anyway.. most women I think they have more than one handbag. I mean.. I'm not such a bag lover but I do have more than one. And I do like to change my bag once in a while.. some women even change their bag everyday. Imagine the time you spend to remove all of our "woman gadget" such mobile phone.. another mobile phone... lipstick..a packet of tissue... wallet..keys.. etc..etc.. everytime you change a bag?!

Then when your mobile phone ringing.. you need to dig and dig inside your bag to finally find it when it stops ringing..;(

For all of that reasons.. I create this "organizer purse" to accomodate all your essential with only one move. Grab the handle and move it to another bag. You won't leave anything behind anymore from now on.

Christmas 2010 Preparation

Christmas 2010 is coming. And like every other year.. I always struggling what to give to people close to me. Something (if possible) that is not too common such handmade stuff. So my husband said to me to try to make a few bags as a gift. There then I started again.. from one become two and so on.. oh well then I may aswell make more and more bags for www.ritney.etsy.shop

So that people..special person like you can also have a special handmade bag from Ritney's.

Easy Document MALE (Unisex) Bag TUTORIAL

It is november! Almost my husband birthday. Last year I promised him a handmade jeans with many pockets like cargo pants.. but It never happened. I never find a proper pattern for it... -that's my excused everytime he asked- ..ouch!! So he never get his jeans ;(

This year.. I will make him a document (A4 size) bag to replace his old one (the one I made to accomodate his laptop at first but he use it to keep his car document..wallet and keys instead).

The design is pretty simple. It's a bag for male after all. I can't put ruffles or attach flower for instance. Has to be something practical!

so I would like to share the tutorial aswell.. oh dear I've been wanting to share something with you but hell no where I put my mind these days ;)

What you need to do :

- Pattern : that would be a rectangular. Mine is 37cmx32cm (Includes 1cm seam allowance). You may want to measure your own laptop or document..or anything. Cut 2 for outer fabric (I use denim/stiff fabric/thick fabric). Cut another 2 for lining (I use unknown fabric).

If you want to put the flap like mine... you need to make another rectangular.. mine size 29cmx12cm (includes 1cm seam allowance) . Cut curve the corner with scissor for nice look.

You need to sew these two together..leave the top edge completely open/un sew... for turning.

- Pockets : for outside and inside pockets I make another rectangular. Mine size 32cmx22cm Includes 1cm seam allowance.

You need to attach the pockets to the outer fabric and lining before you sew the fabric together.

In the middle.. I made two lines of top stitches for a pen.

Same method works for outer/denim exterior pocket.

Now you will have few pieces ready to be put together.

- Sew together the outer/denim fabric (right side facing each other).. same for the lining but leave 10cm open for the turning.

Attaching the flap to the back side of the bag using basting stitches.

The bag front view

- Long straps : Mine size 11cmx160cm Includes 1cm seam allowance. Cut it parallel with the grain of your fabric. Then you fold them in half - lengthwise- sew along the way (right side facing right side). After.. turn the fabric inside-out. Now you have a neat -clean long straps. Iron it... and top stitch all the way (you can skip this step if you want). You can use "ready made" straps. Any straps can do.

- Attach the strap to the side of the bag with basting stitch.

NOW IS THE TRICKY PART :

- Insert the outer bag into the lining (rightside facing each other) .. sew the top edge all around.

- Turn it inside-out through the opening. Top stitch the top edge of the bag... Iron it.

- Enjoy the bag ;)

Ritney's TOTE series

I just finished taking picture of my 4 fabric bags. These bags will be on my new section on www.ritney.etsy.com

I actually have another 4 different bags coming up. But those still on my mind ;D..meaning I haven't work on them yet ;)

Today is sunny day in Bologna in this autumn season. I sew with the sunlight straight onto my back.. very pleasant and comfortably warm.

I am now working on fabric bags project so that I can relax a bit. You see for bags you don't need some specific measurement and so on. Also.. I think for ONE woman--ONE bag is never enough. I actually wanted to make a bag for myself but then I couldn't stop making them.. so one become two---two become four..LOL

These bags.. basically they are TOTE bag... which constructed without buttons..closure nor zipper. This way.. when you need to wash them..just stick 'em inside washing machine and spin. And when you don't need their service... simply fold them and put them inside the wardrobe.

The bags...made from faux fur material... either short or long fur (I haven't work with long fur..yet).. The designs are simple but the material surely stand in the crowd.

Inside.. is lined and I sew a little pocket for your little essential.

oh well.. I hope my relaxation remedy worth the effort.

Yesterday I was feeling a bit low bcoz my little Idol didn't win the competition. This girl I'm going to talking about..she's only13 years old but she's able to sing many difficult opera song. Basically she's one of the "Indonesian talent" participant. It is a talent show.

You can judge the quality of her voice yourself by watching this video.

Her name is Putri Ayu and she's one of "Indonesian tough cookie" ;)

Batik Indonesian Scarf

Last sunday I went to Indonesian party here in Bologna. It was cold and rainy but very warm inside the house (obviously bcoz of the heater) but also ..warm feeling bcoz you meet with your friends..laughed...chat up.. etc.

Everyone bring their own specialities of various kind of food. Most of the time we eat Indonesian food. Then we chat in Indonesian language.. happy time basically. Apart from the cake I brought.. I also brought my collection of Batik scarf. The one I made from 2 meters of fabric. I cut it lengthwise.. finished all edges with rolled hem. They are soft and warm against the wind though. I tried the scarf already for London windy weather.. and it does keep my neck protected.

Chestnuts

Two weeks ago we went to a little town called Piamaggio. It's located around the mountain close to Firenze..(not that close actually). It was already month of October.. so sometimes can be windy and chilly. Anyway..we went there to visit "gli zii" which are aunty and uncle from my husband side. But to make the visit doesn't sound like an obligation..so we said we're going for the chestnuts picking.

It was my first time doing that kind of activity. Nor that I crazy about it. Maybe I won't go next year. I'm not a mountain "Heidi" kind of girl. I caught flu after that though.

But..but..but.... apart from that flu.. I was actually enjoyed it.

We went by car first ..park our car on the side of the forest which full of Chestnuts trees and if you walk more deeper you may lucky enough to find mushrooms. We met few peoples went there for mushrooms picking. Need some knowledges though about mushrooms if you want to pick them. Otherwise you end up poisoned in the hospital ;D

We walked not that far from the car parked. Under some tree..mu husband said.."hey..there are alots of them here".

"where"? I said..bcoz I didn't see any chestnuts on the ground.

Then my husband show me with his feet how to open chestnuts from it shell. The shell is quite sharp full of thorn.. I hurt myself many times.. thats why some people use gloves. To cook them ..we prefer roasted. But some people likes to boil them and put some spices..anyhow..I don't know.

oh.. before you roast them.. you may want to slice the skin so they won't explode.

Thats all I can say about the delicacy of Chestnuts.

Greenwich Market

Sometime ago .. my husband took me to London again. We went to Greenwich Market to see some handcrafted stuff and to look around. First we took the tube but in the middle of our journey..we need to switched into British Railways because they blocked the line for some reasons. Supposed to be a short journey instead lost half a day just to reach Greenwich.

When we arrived we walked straight to the market. I was so amused!!! It was the first (hopefully not the last) time I visited the market. I looked here and there... totally get taken over by what I've seen. My husband didn't took much picture though. Bcoz he used to sell his own stuff there so for him ..Greenwich is such an ordinary administration.

Greenwich market not just full of handcraft stuff but also exquisite food (homemade food). You won't manage to decide what to eat there like me. In the end we went outside the market to have some meal. Chinnese food by the way!

At least for 3 solid days I locked myself at home to finish my "Recycled project". That happened bcoz I don't know where to put all my fabric scrap. Beside these pieces are beautiful taffeta fabric. So I made the pattern.. I choose to make bustier/strapless top..whatever you can call it coz I thought is very sexy and good looking on most woman.

Color me Bad dress

There were times when taffeta fabric is easy to find around where I live. But now I find it hard to look for . My collection of taffeta slowly slowly gone... meaning I used them all. Only remain some pieces here and there. Yesterday I had this idea to construct my left over into a dress. The colors are contrast to each other but I thought I give it a go. I chose this pattern (which I created) bcoz one dress can consist a few pieces so I don't need to have an intact fabric in that case. Most of the pieces comes from my (never worn) long pants.. the one I made for the sake of practicing and From the dress which (never even cross in my mind to wear it) I made to....errr.. practicing again ;D Here it is... I love the result. Anyway.. this dress makes me eager to dig out my fabric stash to upcycle them into something. Save the world ..right!?

Practically I just returned to Europe after more than 2 months spent an adventourous moment in Asia (Thailand-Malaysia-Indonesia). Most of the time we actually travelling around Thailand while we stayed in Indonesia only for 2 weeks... and visit Malaysia only at the border to stamp the visa ;D.

The Fact about Silk Dupioni

I just realized that I didn't give much descriptions on my SILK DUPIONI wrap bolero before. Forgive my ignorance. So.. this is the fact about Silk Dupioni that I learnt : Dupioni Silk (also spelled Duppioni) is produced by reeling silk fibers from two silk worms that have spun one cocoon together and usually produces a rough yarn. Therefore, irregularity in sheerness or weight, sometimes referred to as bands or shadings, is characteristic of dupioni silk fabric. Black specks which occasionally appear in dupioni silk fabric are part of the original cocoon of the silk worm. Removing them would not only weaken the fabric but destroy part of its beauty and character. These characteristics are inherent to dupioni silk fabric and should not be considered as defects in weaving. Dupioni is sometimes called “shantung”, “pongee” or “raw silk”. How to treat it : While dry-cleaning is generally recommended for silk dupioni, it is possible to hand wash sections of silk dupioni fabric before the material is cut and used in a pattern. When washed by hand, there is the chance of some shrinkage, and the fabric will most likely lose some of the crisp texture and a portion of the shimmering effect. For finished products constructed with silk dupioni, dry cleaning is definitely the best means of freshening the material.

Cropped White Faux Fur Jacket

Since the last time I worked with faux fur.. It was quiet long ago. It is not that easy..nor difficult but surely tricky to work with. Especially if you have a respiration problem though. I don't have one but the fur fly all over the place. Stuck on everywhere. I cough alot coz I breath it. A bit of a nightmare... I couldn't wait to finish the work. Today I would like to share my "crop faux fur jacket" project with very simple pattern.

STEP 1 : When you lay your pattern..make sure you do it on the wrong side of the fabric. Otherwise you end up cutting out the fur. Also.. notice where the fur nap direction. STEP 2 : After you cut all.. start to put all the pieces together. Like puzzle ;). Remember to sew from the wrong side of the fabric. Trim the fur all along the seam allowance before you set down on your machine. Otherwise will hard for the machine to work when it's too bulky.

A week ago I fell from 3meter high to the floor. Apparantly I hit the floor with my bump first then my back and back of my head. When I realize what happened.. I already lay down on the floor with dislodge arm. My husband rushed to take me to emergency. I was there in the hospital for like 6 hours. It was monday and busy day. I couldn't stay but I need to stayed!. So finally they X-ray me.. whole body but not my arm. Which healed by miracle! ^.^ I went home... feeling boneless. I stayed silent for a few days but managed to pull myself back together. Started sewing and feel happier. The day after..my husband replace the board on our brand new floor bcoz it's spoiled. Oh well.. sh**t happen sometimes..

LRD New Year Eve 2010

I always wished for a red dress. Finally got the time to construct one. The cut is pretty easy. The sleeve basically is just a rectangular cut where practically I attached it on the sleeve hole more or less consider they don't match each other. To fit them together.. I pleat the sleeve (to gather a wide piece of fabric to a narrower circumference).

I still have left over red fabric. What d' ya think of another LRD???

Tips ruffles

Hello everyone.. Here's I would like to show how simply ruffles can transform a plain garment into something Fab.

step 1: cut a fabric strip. Along the grain or cross grain shouldn't be a problem. Not in my case though.

step 2: stitch in the middle ..along the way like in the pic.. lower the tension into number 0 and choose the biggest stitch length (usually it's number 4)

step 3 : Pull the bobbin thread while sliding it forward aswell until it form ruffle.

step 4: attach the ruffle on to the plain garment. On my project.. I attached them all along until it covered all the surface.

Hello everyone... When I went to Harrods London... I saw a beautiful black bolero made by Valentino that cost an arm and a leg. I thought it was silk but the shop assistance said its polyester. Then I came back to Bologna and made this one. Not exactly the same coz this one is more special made by Ritney. Took me a while to gathered the ruffle. and it wasn't the easiest thing in the world to work with slippery satin. But worth it. I'm happy with the result.

London Trip

hello everyone.. I just got back from fabrics shopping trip in London. Bcoz in my mind they have more latest stuff than anywhere.. so there I went. I brought back around 50kg of fabrics. Most of them are elastic. I went around for my fav taffetta but they didn't have. What a shamed. I ended up bought Silk Dupion though.

I stayed there for a week. Get incredible amused with the city. Very cosmopolitan. Love it! Wish to come back again and grab more supply..hahah

The weather was alright for London. Rain a bit in the morning and the sun came up gradually... and then rain again..lol

RECYCLE Vintage Leather BAG

A while ago someone gave me a soft vintage leather jacket which was horrible. But b'coz its material so I thought I keep it. In case. Today when I'm feeling low.. I get the idea to make a bag out of it. Maybe can also give you an inspiration how to recycle thing. Now get your scissor ready.. So I dismantle everything on the jacket. Pieces and pieces.. doesn't need to be a perfect cut of piece. We are having fun here.. don't complicate your life..let your scissor take the rest. Then re-sew the pieces on top of each other into a one big piece. I folded in two and sew the side edges. It is recommended to use thread for a jeans.. basically strong thread than normal. Put the handle on the side and insert the lining (optional). I don't do zipper or pocket. I attach snap button though..also recycle from an old crap. Oh well.. at least the old jacket now has a new life until I get bore and wish for a new bag. So today moral lesson is not to throw away an old junk. Recycle them if possible. This world we are living in already occupied with rubbish. Lets together make a better living. What you need : -Any leather junk -scissor -Thread -fabric for lining (optional) -sewing machine (optional)..you still can sew by hand though. -willing..

Loop turning TIPS

Have you ever in a difficult situation of trying to turn the loop??? weather your about to making some straps or anything?Especially when the loop is stitch close on the end of it. Today I would like to share a little tips how to turn the loop..easily ^.^

Start with attaching a safety pin in the middle.. on the end of the strap

Then sew.. right side facing. All the way down till the end.

After you finish sewing.. push or pull up the safety pin (which now inside the loop already). Until you complete the turning. At this point you finish your turning. Iron your strap..Top stitch all around... and your strap ready to use.

Balloon Skirt

Hello... I made a balloon skirt the other day. I would like to share a bit how. It is very easy project. Trace the pattern from any simple/basic skirt pattern you able to find. You don't need an exact measurement. The bigger the better to get "baloon effect". Cut the fabric. Make pattern for the lining by reducing the bottom length around 10cm. Add seam allowance. Sew together skirt and lining. Right side facing. Leave the top part un sewn.

For the ballon effect : Attach the elastic (more or less 90cm) on the seam allowance. The point where you sewn together skirt and lining. Now for the top part.. U may want to attach the waistband. Or insert the elastic on it. Or even better finish the skirt with drawstring method. Anyhow. It is fun easy project.

work out well with taffeta fabric. Any rigid fabric can do aswell. Feel free to try with different ways.

I wore the skirt for the Idul Fitri party. I received many compliments for such a simple effort. In the picture I wore the skirt with a large belt. Next time I'll try drawstring instead of plain waistband.

It' s been going on in my mind. About how to make a fabric flower applique. Search a lot on the net. Finally I figure out one easy way. Cut a long strap.. fold it in half ..length wise. Stitch with basting stitch along the length wise. Pull the bottom thread till it create ruffle. From this point you can start making the flower.I attached it onto my Slip&Go bag. What d' ya think?

A day out in the farm

We went to my Gf house the other day. Her house located in the country side. Where she can accomodate kitten... dogs... plants.... friends.. or about anything. We had BBQ... splendid!

How many people knows what is happiness actually means? What does it matter anyway? Some people even fool themselves *maybe includes me* to think that they are happy. How many people dare to ask themselves : "Am I happy?". Do they brave enough to answer the questions honestly. But they do have the courage to blame someone elses over their misery. Does alots of cash makes you happy? Helps though. Poverty doesn't makes you happy either. They say happiness comes from within. I learned not to rely my happiness on someone elses. For me.... the feeling of achievement; freedom and self satisfaction are my happiness. I bet there is more... I'll add it later once i figure it out. Let's be Happy then ;)

Yesterday which is june 30 2008, I turn 27. I made black forest homemade cake during the day

and at night we went out to listen to the music. But it was tuesday in Bologna hardly any nightlife around. After "Pub Tour" like my husband named it, walk around city center with my high heel and sore feet. Found nothing! No music... per niente! We ended in a place with DJ played nonsense music just around the corner of via polese. I had a cocktail *didn't even made me tipsy, nothing*. I dissapointed. Another dissapointed birthday day.

Today I took my braces off after 1.5 years of rapid treatment. Though that's all and you free???!!! THINK AGAIN. I have my retainer now. And because my teeth are freshly straighten so would be better if I wear my retainer almost every time but not when I eat or drink. Oh boy.. no wonder most of my friends who wears brace end up to re-putting their brace till the rest of their life or till they get fed up with it and prefer to give up the treatment and stay live with crooked teeth...oh how sad!! wish me luck ;)

I need to tell myself over and over to stop being worry over nothing! I bet it's my nature alright. Why was I born under this sign *cancer*.. I am good hearted that's cool..but to be extra sensitive that is a headache. Hopefully I can cope with myself.. *sigh*. Today I tried to finish the "bikini project" but guess I couldn't manage to set up my zig zag stiches on top of my funny material fabric. This "many faces" fabric I adore so much only able to work with my serger. And I don't have cover stich feature... what to do!!!! My husband said my face look cleaner due to my illness. Naughty cough

I have cough! so annoying. Everybody in the house are worrying coz I keep coughing and seems like I can't stop coughing... (not that I wished for that though). For the last few days I stayed at home. This skirt I made from a leftover my mom in law one. Originally was a real scottish kilt with a real English wool. Too bad I don't have a picture of it before I refashioned it ;(

But It was only sufficient for the front panel, so the back part I cut from another fabric. Black, half velvet. The pattern from BWOF march 09. I modified though!

has two pockets on the side like the original pattern, skip the waistband so that the skirt fit on my hip. And make it short...short...short..

Oh boy.. I'm happy now. I just finished my summery dress. How it is actually easy to make mommy bun happy ;). Total work around 2 days .... 5hours a day so 10 hours...ffiiuhhhh..

I use pattern bwof 09 for the top part and for the skirt (I like this one...flowing) part I trace from my "seducing skirt".. the one I used to use to seduced my husband with...ahahhahahha

The fabric is.... the "faces" motive... I'm so fallin with this one. Has so many faces from many cultures. Even Balinesse girl face!

I wonder where is the time flying? Today I feel down so I thought I might have feel better if I sew. So I start to cut and sew and when I looked up at a time is 7 o'clock at night. Are u kidding me? Yesterday supposed to be 1st day of spring but It was super windy... collllldddd... Silly me I wore a thin coat coz I wanted to look good..yesterday was saturday night but then I get dusty when I visited my hubby in d flat so It was a total mistake. Catch cold n dusty on sat night. Great! Today fortunatelly is a sunny day. But what's the point sunny day outside but moody inside?

Weekend start today so I thought let me put my hand on sewing machine... and 40 minutes later i finished the unfinish-bag. The shoulder strap I bought in Leroy Marlin (1.60 euro/mtr). I struggle a bit on a circle side part... basically its a rectangle.. fold it make a tube..close the side part with round cut fabric. Insert zipper for opening.No pattern used.

Acne on d cheek

My husband was browsing on d net while I was smoochie-moochie with him coz he wear this very hommy smell sweater..

I wanted to show you my acne spots on my cheek but cant really see them. These days I'm suffering from acne attack from head to toe ;) I am getting frustrated aswell ..makes my husband panic...hahahah.... I use this special cream I bought in farmacy but doesnt really help. My acne was alright when I used to use "acne cream" from Indonesia.. its finish now.. I think my skin is just simply Indonesian type one which doesnt get along with Italian cream..ouch!!Will someone be kind to send me this Sariayu acne lotion???

SIDE JOB

For a few days I'm helping my husband build the bathroom wall for our new flat. What I learned is not that easy to build a STRAIGHT wall. The preparation everytime take forever. Sometimes even get on my nerves. I abandoned my sewing stuff... my up coming summer bag project... I just cant do anything else after hours and hours in d flat. Hopefully we finish this flat quickly..... QUICKLY!!! eventhough- there are so many things to do to finish this flat. This flat will turn out great and new and the greatest of all is that we are going to move in... our own place.... Oh someone please tell me to be patient. Just like today I really want to make clothes again like old times...HUAAA Spring is coming so its a bit warm during the day and start to chilli again when its dark.

The skirt coming from my unwearable malissa which I took out the top part ..insert elastic and ta da ..turn out to be swingy adoreable skirt. Love it though! The fabric has so many tiny holes..cute... see through

The black top I made from elastic lace.... transparant...also cute. I follow basic pattern Lidya after i altered. It is just like a shirt. Without zipper nor buttons... I'm so happy. I wore this combination on Indonesian meeting... which lately I find it a bit boring. I just cant go along with them...hehehehe.. This meeting every once a month is basically stuff urself with food... and "please enjoy yourself" or join the "boring" club!

oh whatever.. I think everybody has a right to entertaint themself anyhow. Right?!

Cheese Pound Cake tragedy!

I made this cake the other day for Indonesian meeting (arisan euy!).It was a disaster! the outside was hard and the inside (supposed to be soft n spongy) was uncooked properly. I wanted to cry... Huaaa..why!!??? I follow the instruction alright. And the worse was: i found out that the cake unproperly cook in the morning.

But then I remember I have this instant puff pastry and panna in the fridge. So I bake the plain pastry- filled it with panna mounted mix with cream cheese and garnished with jam. I saved!

NOTE: just have a thought, I tried to whisk the white eggs but i couldnt make it foamy. Might be the cause....

I use this recipe I found on the web (after alteration) : Ingredients : butter (250gr) /package cream cheese, softened (200gr) /sugar (500gr) /6 eggs (separated) /flour (750gr) /baking soda Directions : Preheat oven to 300°F/160 C /Cream butter, cream cheese and sugar together /Add eggs one at a time. /Add vanilla and then flour slowly. /Pour into a bundt pan or Tube pan. /Bake for 1 1/2 hours. /IMPORTANT: Do not try and rush by cooking faster in a hotter oven.

PS: If some cake tragedy like this happen to you.. dont throw away the cake! (I know.. I also get pissed off and intent to chuck 'em away). Instead..slices it thin and bake them again (in d oven or grill.. I grilled them though). They will turn into something like a biscotti /cookies. Taste lovely ;)

A pile of new fabric from London.. They came together with my husband hidden in the boot of the car. I treat them like my treasure...hhmmm we'll figure out what to make out of 'em. In d pic they dont look that adoreable... trust me they are lovely..huhuhuhu.. From lace to drappery.. from elastic to sturdy.... from jersey to velvet. My favorite at d moment is d one with so many faces printed.. a bit elastic aswell... good combination so I dont need to install zipper. And the red one on top is good for a "red carpet look"...huaaaaa

chocolate or flower?

Which one u would like to choose as a gift? chocolate or a flower? I would prefere a box of chocolate..the dark one! even that I dont eat sweet stuff that much anymore.. Many occassions here where u able to find every corner of the town full of chocolate (not for free though!).. with various kind of chocolate. dark.. milk... u named it!

the originall dress after I took out the sleeves.. u dont even want to bother urself to noticing I am so annoyed..annoyed... these days....HUAAAAA!!!!!I want to go on holiday!!! Then the only thing able to distract my mind is making things/sewing. So here I go again find some old stuff and this time will be my "winter night dress"....oww.. I used the basic pattern Lydia which you can find on Burdastyle.com (lazy to set the link).

I have a pile of unwearable clothes in my bedroom. Again..we need to do some action so that this useless pile turn to be usefull...eh.. at least for myself..Yay! I try to use other simple dress pattern but I thought... its not worth to trouble myself with that. So we decided to use my "favorite recycle pattern".

I check people blog through burdastyle and most of them are inspiring. On the other hand I dont know how to spice up mine. I keep wondering how these people able to find their spare time during their real life. Lets say I am a full time wife.. sometimes I sew for someone and earn some euros sometimes I sew just to cheer myself up. Most of the time I cook... tide up when I feel like it.... sewing and browsing on the internet and when I realize its already time to sleep. So when is the time to take a picture and upload it to ur blog PLUS write some notes?! My husband say that the more u are busy the more you have time free on ur hand. HA!! show me how maybe..

I actually I dont mind much to clean up the house.Vaccum n Mop the floor since I dont feel like dealing with dust if I need to sweep 'em. but when it come to the bathroom..o boy.. if I can skip it I would. Usually I take a strong expresso first before put my hand on the them so that the coffe effect would help me to finish the job. Most of the time it work though. I dont suggest this to anyone (to much caffein can kill ur heart). But if its help..hmmm..why not ;)

comfy boots is hard to find

I've been wanting to buy a new comfortable boots for sometime so that I can walk and walk painlesslly and complainlessly. I found this pair in a shop before sale time and now they reduce the price like ten euro cheaper. Havent decide yet though! The other day in my Italian class I saw a girl with the same boots but in black. Looks comfy allright. What do u think?

Faux Fur coat

I think two days ago I finished this coat. Didnt really take much time this one. I struggle a bit with the Italian INstruction but in the end I thought...hah..just follow my intuition. In the meantime I also learned how to deal with furry stuff like this. The thing that bother me a lot was because the fur all over the place and there is no way but vaccum them rightaway. I Couldnt find the spare time to upload it till today. Too busy with facebook....hahahhahahahahhah.. what an excuse! So here we are... as you can see the lining (I must admit) well constucted ;). oh yes... I made Tiramisu today which consist of : 250gr mascarpone-3eggs yolk mix with 3 spoons sugar-3 white eggs beat them till rigid-a bit of liquoer n savoiardi (Italian biscuit)and last but not least black caffe. Just mix them all and refregerate.

I just stare at them (fabric..pattern..scissor..MY SEWING MACHINE) without really doing it. This weekend I went back n forward to centro. Today.. I supposed to go to scuola Italiano but then I didnt feeling well..I didnt feel like going..oh boy! I noticed its been a few days I have this annoying headache. One moment on my left head..another moment..hhmmm.. whatever! I cant manage to wake up in the morning these days.. I wonder ..Am I so lazy??? I meant I start my day on mid day so I feel like I'm losing half of my day and without I realize I need to go to bed AGAIN and its past midnight. I bet its correct that I dont have a strong motivation to start my everyday. So what should I do? Might be good if I can wake up in Bali tomorrow morning...hahahahahahhahahah I wished!

Oh yess.. they start the sale all over Italy. I went to centro today n bought 3 pairs of pants. I actually dont need them ..I meant I need them NOT..????!!! I supposed to look for some boots... the nice good looking n comfortable one...hahahahahah to much to ask! But I couldnt find one. So I wont return home without something..correct?! ow guess what.. they charge 8euro/pair if you want to shortening your pants. Well at least with me I charge 5euro and I give discount aswell...heheheheheheh.. and I'm friendly ^^

Clothes Recycle

I prefer to do some sewing with this antique singer I have. This one came along the way from London. To meet the new sewer which is ...ME..

Today I am going to do some recycling. I got this old clothes from somewhere. So I cut them out and trace them with a pattern. This way the old clothes can still has a life.. But not long after that... I decide to vacum the house instead. Guess what ..after I watched "desperate housewives" on you tube.. I feel like clean up..hahahahhahahahahah.. Now I really need to get some shower.. but I wonder weather I should watch something first to get the inspiration ...???? maybe..

Dog and Coat and Paris

I took this picture from someone's shop somewhere in Paris. I think it is pretty cool..

It's a picture of the dining room from the house in Paris where I stayed for a week. It was tidy until we arrived and messed things up.

I went to Paris the other time was totally by chance! Silvia (my sister in law) she sent me the night train ticket from Bologna central and arrived straight to Paris. I thought It was quite easy.. Eventhough I held my pee al night coz I didnt want to leave my luggage un-guard in d compartment. I got so paranoia after heard many bad experience on d night train.

When I arrived ..Silvia already there. Things always been easy for me..mmmhh

She's been very nice to me.. She cooked fish in d oven for us.. she took me around.. she lent us d house... she was nice!

The thing that impressed me alot was Eiffel tower. It was just simply a masterpiece. I also went to Montmarte for fabric shopping but I didnt buy many.

It was cold in Paris on November. On our back home to Bologna... the toll road side was cover by snow.. all white... Car windscreen was frozen.. We didnt stop. INdeed we knock out n had a nap inside d frozen car... It was alright.

I was happy.

When I dont know what to do for meal... Most of the time I end up in making Pizza. Just mix 500gr flavour-125ml warm Milk-1/2 cube of Lievito di birra-olive oil and start to work with your hand and strength... And put anything you prefer for the topping...ta da..

NEW YEARS EVE 2009

In Italy they call it "cappodano" I am not sure how it supposed to write. With double P or double N...????? Anyway.. I spent my new years eve Together with my GF from Indonesia and her family at their home in Milan (Apparantely she is going to move to Indonesia so its a bit like a farewell party aswell ). Some adults and kids... kids.. they are like a little monster that only able to SCREAMMMM and CRRRRYYYYYYY so LOOUUUDDDDDD!!! Now I am back in Bologna. Happy new year 2009 and I just dont know where to start but hey... what do I care. I am going to think and live right now without need to concern so much for the future... (promise!) I made torta di riso. Become my speciality so far :). My GF she cook a lot like usuall... everybody bring their own food.... faces I've never seen before. oh..this is how to make torta di riso.. and you dont need to be a real Bolognese to know how to make' em : 100gr rice- 1 liter of milk- bring' em to boil for 10minutes. Wait till cool or just leave the pot outside the window in case of winter. Mix with 3 eggs-canditi-mandorle/almond-amaretti or whatever you prefer. Bake for an hour till looks dark. Easy peasy! Christmas Cookies

always the same problem everytime christmas is coming. I dont know what I can give to family..neighbour..friends... nightmare! In the end I decided to bake some cookies I used to bake in Indonesia when some occassion like this arise. I set them inside plastic container and put a ribbon. Un pensiero like they call it! My cookies came out from the oven without burn and everybody's happy...(I hope though)
